Ancestry in Italy, how do I start my search?

Postby Hatch1906 » 28 Aug 2006, 00:33

Hello everybody,
this is actually my first post in this forum, which I found on my search for help for ancestry in Italy. I have no experience with any ancestry in Italy, and I defenitely would need some helping hints how to start.

Well, I am searching for one of my ancestors in Italy:

Josef Romany
* 1795 in Lucca, Toscany, Italy
+ 26.08.1881 (apperently in Münster, Germany)

oo 21.11.1820 Maria Bernadine Neuscheffer (apperently in Münster, Germany)

Did - at that time - exist any registry in Lucca, except church records? If not, how can I find out today, in which church I will have to look for this person? Or ist there a central archive today that has all the church record together?

As I would defenitely love to find out more about this track into Italy of the Middle Ages, I will be grateful for any help one of you might provide!!!

Greeting from Bavaria. 8)

I believe you will need to consult parish records given the is a
link to the Lds website, they have microfilmed records all over the world.
By using a place search, you can check to see if the town of origin was filmed and for what dates. ... t_fhlc.asp

to check for a library near you: ... et_fhc.asp
