I'm new to this form of getting information. need a lot of help. Looking for members of Torretta family. Josehp (Giuseppe), Charles, Louis, Enrico, Peter. They lived in Boston at one time. Possibly between 1885 to 1900.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thank you Bob.

I remember my first post.
Was more worried about the proper etiquette for
posting than about including everything I needed to!

Now, we all do whatever we can do to help the poster along.
It may take a few posts to find the 'key' to the records,
but it's worth it if we can help find someone's family or assist
in their research.

babydoll,

It would be terrific if some of these records belong to your family!
You're right, it's a lot to absorb.
Please let us know if any of the links don't work, or if the documents
are difficult to read. We can see if we can fix them (can use a different
'host' to link the images)
Take your time and get back to the team here whenever you're ready to
press on.

and Maria, very high praise, I'm humbled. Thank you.

Maria,
You are a wonder!
Couldn't find that manifest anywhere.
Kinda surprising that his name was 'Joseph' and not Giuseppe.
Perhaps the person filling out the information translated the name?
(noticed this lately on WW1 cards - filled out w/'americanized' name,
signed with 'original' name)

Well... after 3 tries with Ancestry... I thought it would be best to search for the actual ship... (since you provided the info)...

Found the exact ship/date.... only 5 sheets to search... couldn't find his name after 2x... so I looked for his age instead... and poof... found him in seconds...

I have NO IDEA what Ancestry has him listed as...

I've seen this before too - where record keepers Americanized given names... and it threw me off...

Maria,
Got it, old fashioned leg-work.
Like the days before ancestry (not so long ago)
Page by page by page by page.

Perhaps this wasn't his first trip and he had already americanized his name
himself?

Thanks! Valarie

To All,
The information for as far as the people listed is concerned is correct. It is my grandparents and their children. The marriage record is correct also except for my grandmother's age. I think she was trying to impress Joseph. Her birth year is 1857. Charles is Joseph's son by his first wife.I can't tell if Dr. Steve Morse's site is correct or not. I do know that Joseph lived in France at one time and could speak French. The immigration years listed in the census go from 1883 to 1885. Joseph was born and believed married in Milan or Bellano, Italy. Louis (Luis) and Enrico are Joseph's brothers. Peter may be a brother or cousin. Charles wa born 23 Nov. 1882 in Milan or Bellano. Had a younger sister name unknown.
