D'Alema / Rondinone

Postby A_Dalema » 11 Sep 2006, 23:11

I am seeking any info regarding the surname D'Alema (d'Alema) and or Rondinone coming from Miglianico. My grandfather has said that my great grandfather Pietro d'Alema and great grandmother Elizabetta Rondinone came from there, but I'm having difficulty finding any birth or marriage records on them. Have searched the vitals in Miglianico - found other family members but not Pietro or Elizabetta. So perhaps they lived there a while, but weren't both born there? I know they came over on the ship - U.S.S. Hamburgh in 1912 (manifest says Miglianico as previous residence) and settled in NY and then Jersey.

I'm at a standstill in my research so any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi & welcome to the forum,

Both their names have been crossed off the March 28, 1912 manifest, which usually means that they did not make the trip on that ship (no town of birth on page 2)......we will need to look for another manifest.

Will start looking.....lots of great researchers here, so we should find their town of origin.

I found a Rondinone going to visit his brother Antonio Rondinone in New York from your town. Elizabetta and her husband were also going to New York to see an A. Rondinone...brother in law to Pietro. Another relative?? Elisabetta's brother perhaps??

Didn't check to see if Elizabetta is on the manifest, she isn't shown by Pietro....may have other manifest to look for.

Hope you have better luck eith your research! Let us know.

Great!

I don't see Elizabetta Rondinone on this manifest, so am still looking.

Thank you so much for the registration card. That shines a lot of light on what year my great grandfather must have come to the U.S. along with his place of birth. What a wonderful find and thank you so very very much!!!!

missing manifest?
Pietro D'Alema, Elizabetta Rondinone & son Domenico D'Alema
SS Moltke 23 Sep 1912
all born in Miglionico (Potenza?)
(question in 1912 was Miglionico in Potenza, now in Matera?)

page 1
page 2

and, just in case you don't have the 1920 census for Pietro D'Alema & family
(it's a tough one... under Jeter Dalena & wife Rondenar on ancestry.com)
possible 1920 census

Hi A_Dalema,

I have two questions.....

When you searched the vital records of Miglianico, did you also look for Pietro & Elzabetta as their middle name?

Do you have any US documentation that supports, Miglianico, as the town of origin?

vj - thank you so much for all the info. It definitely helped me put dates together!
jcsm400 - vj sent me the ships manifest with both Pietro & Elizabetta coming from Miglianico and also 1917 registration draft card for Pietro saying Miglianico as place of birth.
I searched pretty much everything on Miglianico vital records that I could find on the web. Searched again last night - it doesn't seem to go past 1850's or thereabouts. I'm still searching for other vital records for Miglianico that goes through 1900's. Pietro was born in 1888 and Elizabetta somewhere around 1886? I'm still trying to find out who both sets of their parents are, so then I can work backwards and piece the other family members together.

Thank you for so much help you guys!

Well that explains it.......Not many Italian vital records online....thought you had consulted the LDS films for the vital records of Magianico.......these are the birth, marriage, & death acts for the years 1809-1900.

Hopefully you will find them & their families on these films.

Yep.....agree with you that vj found correct manifest.....she's awesome!

Happy hunting!
