Hi Tracy,

I really don't know the answer, but would guess that if there are Italain newspapers from the early 1860's ,that like here in the States, there aren't many (compared to the amount actually published) & the ones that do exist are not always complete.

Have you tried contacting the archive in the province of Vercelli?

Even if they have no newspapers for this time period, they maybe able to locate information on Luigi Landi.

Good luck in your search.

Could the local libraries be of assistance?

There might be some records from the local church, or some prominent individual(s) that might have kept a journal that might contain this information.

Just some thoughts ...

I have a two-part question...

Are there any online databases for Italian newspapers similar to Proquest, which is a company that has digitized the entire run of several American newspapers (back into the 1800s!) including:

The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, The Christian Science Monitor, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Atlanta Constitution, The Boston Globe, and The Hartford Courant

And... Does anyone know of any American libraries that have microfilmed reels of "Corriere delle Puglie," which i believe was a predecessor of La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno

I know these are tall requests, but it never hurts to ask :)

thanks,
Mauro
