researching Rich (Riccetelli) and Testa surnames

Post by dlradell »

My husband's father's family came to US from Italy around 1902. I have received very limited information on this line of the family. I know the following:

Pasquale Rich dob: 5/25/1886 in Auduni
immigrated to US around 1902
married to Teresa Testa??? dob 1887 died before 1921
children: Clara dob 10/10/1914 in CT
a son born in CT
They lived in Southington Connecticut. I know Pasquale had a nephew named Nicholas Rich who married Anna Radell (my husband's paternal great-aunt). Pasquale may have remarried after Teresa and 2 more children, Molly born in 1921 and John born in 1923.

If anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated.

The only census I can find Pasquale on is 1930 with Mollie and John listed as children but no wife. I have also located his daughter Clara (my husband's grandmother) on the 1930 census living at a school named Home of the Good Shepard in Hartford, CT.

I found a Pasquale Riccetelli on the Roma ship manifest that arrived 12/18/1902 with the age as 16 (which would be right) and that he was married.

I have been able to find his brother Thomas in Southington 1900,1910 & 1920 cenus.

Almost all relatives that we know of are gone and other's don't know much.

Thank you for the draft card info and for any other info.

Have yet to locate Pasquale, did find a few census of interest, but no concrete evidence of Your Pasquale.

However, by 1920 Thomas is listed as widowed, his wife Carmella died between 1910 and 1920 census. He list his immigration as 1891, and is naturalizing by 1896......I would apply for his naturalization as it should list his parents names.

Are you sure that both brothers lost their wives before 1920, or that possibly Pasquale and his brother's wives have been confused?

JC.
Checked out that variation as well, I did see a few of interest, but daughter is not Clara.....and nothing concrete to tie together......so would be purely speculation.
have you looked for the manifest? never have liked searching for those......would be interesting to see what info they provide on both brothers.........

Is this the 1902 manifest you speak of??

Is he married or single.... :?:

The manifest tells me that he is single.... :!:

The reliable ( ) transcriber has him as married... no proof of that on this manifest whatsoever....

This manifest tells me that he is from Gioia Sannitica...

City of Gioia Sannitica: Campania Region - Province of Caserta (CE)

Link to Gioia Sannitica town info

It also tells me that he would be joining his brother Alfonso in Conn.

First Name: Pasquale
Last Name: Riccetelli
Ethnicity: Italian
Last Place of Residence:
Date of Arrival: Dec 18, 1902
Age at Arrival: 16 y Gender: M Marital Status: M (single...??)
Ship of Travel: Roma
Port of Departure: Naples
Manifest Line Number: 0028

Link to Pasquale Riccetelli's manifest 1902 at age 16

There are other Pasquale Riccitelli that came over that same year but much older...

Hi dlradell,

The LDS Church (Mormans) has filmed the civil records (birth, marriage, & death acts) for the town of Gioia Sannitica. They cover the years 1809 through 1929.

Here is a link to the available films.

You order/rent these films from your nearest LDS-Family History Center.

Locate your FHC.

Hey.......one of the census of interest had an Alfonso.....but I didn't bookmark it nor can I remember what search criteria I used at that point.........

But I really question that both brothers had wives die before 1920??
If the info being presented is by an elderly relative.......well, we all know memories can fade with time......maybe there was some confusion.

Any luck with the Thomas/Tomasso manifest?

Pasquale was naturalized!!!!! Note the numbers on his manifest line......
great work.

Sending for this paperwork will yield further clues, but you now have fathers name, as well as another brother!!!
