D'Onoflio and Bartetti

Postby Blevins » 19 Sep 2006, 04:56

sdb447@aol.com[align=justify]

Looking for info on Joseph D'Onoflio and Wife Maria (Mary) Barbetti. (My Grandparents) As far as we know, Joseph was born August 1, 1882 in Naples and died Jan 19, 1968. Mary was born July 12, 1903 in Palermo, Sicily and died August 16, 1968. Both died in Vineland, New Jersey.

Joseph had at least one brother named Anthony. Among others, Mary had sisters Amelia, Aldena, and a brother Leon.

We have no record of when they immigrated nor do we have info on their parents.

Together, they had 2 daughters, Marie born 7/5/1923 and Rose born 2/19/1926. (Both in Vineland, NJ)

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello,

I am an amateur whose doing a family research at the moment as well ... but had a look at Ellis Islandrecords and nothing came up with D'Onoflio.

Is it possible that the name changed to D'Onoflio from D'Onofrio when immigrated?

Joseph was married before:

1910 Census of Landis, Cumberland, New Jersey ED 113

Donoflio, Joseph, age 27, married 7 years, born Italy, arrived 1889
------------, Annie, age 25, married 7 years, had two children, two children living, born Pennsylvania,
------------, Frank, age 5, born NJ
------------, Angelina, age 3 born NJ

No doubt the Frank listed in the 1930 census is his son from his first wife.

There is no D'onoflio anywhere...no listing in an immigrants lists of names, no listing of the name in Italy today. Logic says it should be D'onofrio...but it certainly could have been something else as well....

What happened to the first wife? and the children in 1920? Where is Frank and Angelina in 1900, 1910? PA or NJ or both?

----------, Rosa, born Oct 1892, age 7, born PA
----------, Tony, brother, born Sept 1866, age 33 , married 16 years, born Italy, arrived 1890

It is important to note that Frank (Francesco) was naturalized prior to 1900. Probably the paperwork for this started in Penn, as it took a period of time to get citizenship. But sometime between 1893 and 1900 the family came to NJ so the final paperwork could be there.

I would look for Francesco's naturalization papers as it could well be that his wife and children became citizens on his paperwork. Doubt they have their own naturalization...rather they may just be listed on his.

Good Luck.
