surnames, Ciavarella and Didonna

Postby denise9961 » 30 Sep 2006, 01:10

Hi, I'm searching for any info on surnames Ciavarella and Didonna from Noicattaro. My Grandfather, Vitangelo Ciavarella immigrated to the US in 1907. Don't know alot about relation in Italy. Apparently he had only 2 sisters, but on the ships manifest, it states that he was going to join his brother Antonio in Chicago??? Any info would be appreciated!!

Thanks, Vj! As always you're a treasure.

Hi Denise,

The LDS Church (Mormans) have filmed the civil records (birth, marriage, & death acts) for the town of NOICATTARO (correct spelling).

Here is a link to the available films (1809-1900).

Hope this helps in tracing the Ciavarella & DiDonna families.

If you have any questions/need further assistance on anything (Have you obtained census records?), please let us know.

Good luck in your research.

Just throwing in two cents here, per this manifest, Vitangelo left his father Giuseppe in Italy. Also, Vitangelo was naturalized March 9, 1942.

Hello,
you can request, writing a letter in italian, a family history certificate (Certificato Storico di famiglia) about Vitangelo Ciavarella, so you know his siblings and parents to

Comune
Ufficio di Stato Civile
Via Pietro Nenni
70016 Noicattaro (BA)
Italy

Usually the Ufficio Stato Civile wants € 2,50 euros for each name.
Or you just can request for each sibling an abstract from birth record (Estratto per riassunto dell'atto di nascita)

I also suggest you to put in the envelope of the request, a self-addressed envelope + an international reply coupon + a copy of your ID.

Or you can contat Archivio di Stato di Bari to have integral copy of birth record

http://archivi.beniculturali.it/UCBAWEB ... ?nome=BARI

or you can rent Noicattaro civil record microfilms to FHL (mormon churhc)

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... oicattar++

I hope it helps, bye Riccardo
