Hi There,

The Family History Center has microfilm for the town of San Leucio that you can order and rent for $5.75 a roll depending on your location. On the films you can find copies of the birth, marriage, and death records of your ancestors for the years of 1809-1929. Here is the link for the film numbers.

Hi Paula,

Thought that you maybe interested in this......originally posted by our member, Trish, a professional genealogist.

"Now if you were to write directly to Italy, 1. They may not respond back to you. 2. you will get an "Extraction" of the record. An "Extraction" only list the name of the individual with minimal information like his parents' names.

The microfilm record will have tons of information on it. An example would be that on the microfilm record of 1850's, it will list the parents' names, the parents' ages, could list a street's name, the day the child was baptized and the name of the Church. And if a the person writing the record was "really into his job", there could be added information like grandfathers' names - ex: Giuseppe Greco di Antonio (Giuseppe son of Antonio {who is alive}). So you never know what you might find on the film."

For clarification:

The extract - estratto dell'atto - contains most information, but must be requested.

Record content:
Birth certificate: Birth date
Commune
Province
Surname
Given name

Birth extract: Same as certificate
Time of birth
Childs sex
Parents names
Marginal notes - i.e. marriage, death, emigration information

Hi Wldspirit,

You are correct that you MUST REQUEST the addtional information but it doesn't mean you are going to get that additional information. Remember, most towns are using a "form" and it is still basically up to the individual who is responding to your request if they feel like adding any of the extra notations to your request.

However, my own personal opinion is to always use the microfilm first if there is microfilm for your town. Those records on the microfilm are copies of the ACTUAL documents and have so much more information on them.

Was not referring to the microfilm....but the task of writing for info......I do believe the poster stated she was doing both??

Anyway, just quoting other professional sources......and you are correct,
they may not even respond to a simple request, let alone an extract.
