Northern Italy Bucci

Post by tfs985 »

Hey my great grandmom Adeline Bucci is from Northern Italy but I don't know where. Her father is Gaetano Bucci and Christina Bucci (don't know her maiden name) and they lived in Hammonton, NJ. Is there anyway someone could find me Gaetano Bucci's ship manifest so I can try to figure out what part of Italy he is from. Thanks again, you all are very helpful.

Hi tfs985,

The census records are from ancestry.com, which is a pay site, but they usually run a 14-day free trial. I can link the 1900, 1910 & 1920 so you can print if you don't want to join ancestry even for a free trial.

As for the manifest, if they came through New York, they would have arrived at Castle Garden. Here is that website, but the closest match I found was for a Gaetano Buccigrassi.......Also, pre-1906 manifests & naturalizations don't have very much information on them, so it's doubtful you'll get the town of birth information

http://www.castlegarden.org/

Would recommend getting their death records from the town clerk of Hammonton, NJ....May list parents' names & place of birth. Also, birth records for their children born in the US, may provide town information. Church records for the family can also provide information.

hey thanks alot for your help. I am going to contact the city of Hammonton, which is only about 20 minutes from where I live. Hopefully I can find this info...I have one other bit of info....I'm pretty sure one of them is from an Italian town that borders Switzerland and Croatia...I have looked online but I haven't had any luck locating such a city.

You're welcome.

Another place to obtain NJ's BMD would be through the State Bureau of Vital Statistics and Registration.

http://www.state.nj.us/health/vital/amend.shtml

For naturalization record, contact the NJ State Archives.

http://www.state.nj.us/state/darm/links/archives.html

Let us know how your research is going.....once you obtain the birth town information, we can provide information on tracing family in Italy.

thanks again for the help. I will look at those web sites. I'll keep you updated. Also I found some other family from Naso, Sicily. There is a Salvatore Aiello who married one of my cousins who is an Origlio....I found him on that paginablanche.it website but it did not list his children.

This is what came up:

Aiello Salvatore
98074 Naso (ME) - Via Delle Grazie, 71

Is that his address and what does Via Delle Grazie mean? I'm guessing he is 71.

If you want to write, here is a form letter to a potential relative.

You may want to contact member Gaetano Buccigrossi but I'm not sure of his username on this board. I did have it at on time.... He may have some information that could help you.

His website is..

http://gaetano2.com/

You may also want to contact members Suanj and brujaojos who have both helped with searches for this surname.

Ancestry is running a free search on immigration records until Nov. 30th....
I would check it out. Maybe you will get lucky and find that they went back for a visit, or had someone visit them, which may list their name under the intended destination. Worth a shot......... :)
