Postby Woodie » 21 Jan 2007, 02:36

Just starting research into Giorgio Francesco Barbera born 23 Feb 1923 - lived in Taormina until the 2nd World War where he was in the Italian Navy - lost his brother Roberto in Battle of Matapan - moved to Northern Italy near Trieste post war and then emigrated to Australia

Any clues on where to start researching ancestral home?

Hi Woodie,

Welcome to the forum!

I would suggest starting by obtaining all Australian records for him & his Family. Hopefully you will get his birth town information, which you need to trace the family in Italy.

Some documents to obtain:
Death record (if deceased)
Marriage record (if married in Australia)
Birth recors for any children born in Australia
Ship manifest
Naturalization records

This research guide should be helpful. ... tralia.ASP

Hope this helps & keep us posted.
