Rinella, D'Anna, Rubino from Palermo (Trabia?)

Postby Marlena » 21 Jan 2007, 21:32

Carmela (Carmella) Rubino Rinella is my grandmother. She landed at Ellis Island in 1901 with her husband, Giuseppe (Hinseppe on the ship manifest) Rinella. She was 19 and he was 24. They came from Trabia by way of Naples in 1901 on the Columbia. Carmela was born about 1882 and died in 1931 at age 49, as a widow with six children: Joseph, Mary, Sam (Salvatore), Millie (Carmela), Josie (Josephine) and Filippo (Phil, my dad). I am to understand her mother's name is Josephine Rubino. I don't know if she was born in Trabia,Palermo thought I expect she was, or who her parents or sibilings were. I can find many Carmela Rubinos, but the dates don't match up.

Giuseppe Rinella died at 40 y/o in 1916 in San Jose, Ca. He had a brother Salvatore in Albion, NY and he was married to Augustina Barone (no children). I don't know his parents names. He was very close to the Barone families. Upon arrival to the US Giuseppe and Carmela lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for a year, in San Francisco until the 1906 quake, and then bought a ranch (apricot orchard) in the Evergreen area of San Jose, California. We are to understand there is a link between the D'Anna and Rinella names a few generations back with a Rinella marrying a D'Anna and adopting her children. Any help with their history would be appreciated.

Wow, that's it, you are the master !
But ! There is no Peter, there was a child that died before my father Phillip. The first child Joseph was born in Sicily but he was alive until he was 94ish.

Hi!
I'll link 1920 in a few minutes.
Do you suppose Peter in 1930 was a grandson or nephew?
Thanks!

I asked my Dad and he said there wasn't any that he knew of. He was 14 when the Mom died and she only spoke Sicilian. The family kind of broke apart after that so I only have my Dad and one sister (Josephine) in San Jose that I can ask. Their memories are very rusty at 89 and 96, I can only be as lucky! I know the sibilings, Sam and Camela, are alive but can't find them or their kids and I know they live in California not far from us.

OMG !!! I have seen that name, Rinaldo, but never with the Quimby Rd address, I used to live there long ago! That's them. I asked my Unc. if the name Alero/Alario rang a bell, but no !!! My aunt has mentiond Sante/a has been mentioned as well as a Mamie(maybe Katie?) , too. They talked about a James who we were told committed suicide. (Ack) I heard the Alario's (Salvadora Alario was my g.mothers sister) were in Canada so that is probably the link to Rinella's in Canada. YIPPEE !
You are too cool! I am loving this.
Thank you !!!
I have more but it's Sunday and you probably need a break. Can I ask more later?

That has to be them. Maybe the previous census made a mistake on the gender for Sante? All I know is that I was told she had four daughters, Santa/e, Mary, Josephine and Mary.

Your spoiling me you know!
