death databases

Postby aus4us3 » 01 Feb 2007, 01:22

Hello,

This is my first post so I hope this is the correct board. I'm at a loss on where to figure out when my great great grandfather died, so any suggestions would be grateful.

His death would have taken place within the 5 boroughs of NYC, most likely Kings, or queens. I have looked through the IGG death records search did not find any possible match.

Giuseppe (Joseph) Vitacco born April 27, 1874 in Italy (date stated on his ww1 registration card)

I'm confident he was alive in 1938 as there was a tragic family murder at the apartment complex he owned in Brooklyn (newspaper article dated May 14, 1938 states he was owner of the building and father of victim).

Unfortunately I am unable to ask family members on approximate dates because my great grandfather died in 1947 and my great grandmother did not keep in contact with his family.

Thank you so much for any help on this (just one more snag on trying to gather paperwork for my Italian citizenship!)

Kindest Regards,

Sonja

Hi Sonja & welcome to the forum!

Since he isn't showing up in the IGG, I would guess he didn't die in one of the boroughs or possibly another trnascription error.

Here is a list of genealogical volunteers in the state of New York.
I noticed several that do obit lookups for the NYC area.

Hope it helps.

PS. Did you get the WW I draft card information from ancestry?...... I get a mislink record for a Antonio Vitacco b. 1892.
Researching in San Vitaliano, Napoli, Italy & Armento, Potenza, Italy.

Hi jcsm,

Thank you for the information on the volunteer information. I will email them and see what they can find. It could be possible he lived to a ripe old age and passed after 1948!

I did find the ww1 information on ancestry.com. I too got an incorrect link for his record, but I scrolled through the records till I found his (record # 108 from the incorrect link).

WOW some of this information is like finding a needle in a haystack!

Kindest Regards,

Sonja
