Trying to find relatives in Cervinara, Italy...

Postby ruffian » 05 Feb 2007, 18:28

I am new to forums and don't completely understand what I am doing, but I'll try.

My great-grandparents came from Italy and I have found quite a bit of information about them- specifically naturalization papers. I would like to try and find my grandmother's mother's family in Italy since this seems like my best chance to locate any relatives in Italy.

Teresa Mainolfi (my great-grandmother, Mainolfi was her maiden name) came from Cervinara on March 22, 1924 on the vessel DUILIO to New York with her husband Frank (Seduto). They were married February 25, 1924 in Cervinara right before they came to America.

I forgot to mention that Teresa was born in Cervinara on April 1, 1900.

They had 2 daughters, Elvira born Sept. 28, 1925 (my grandmother) and Michelina born Aug. 4, 1927.

Teresa Mainolfi's family was very educated; her father Frank was a University professor (from what I had heard) and her brother was some kind of law enforcement official either in Cervinara or the military.
Teresa's sisters were all teachers. The only sisters names I can remember were Isabella (or similar) and Elvira (who my own grandmother was named after.)

The only reason Teresa's father "Frank" permitted Teresa to marry her future husband "Frank Seduto" was becuase they were going to America.
Otherwise Teresa's father would not permit the marriage because "Frank Seduto" was poor and uneducated.

Although I do not know Teresa's mother's first name, I do know that Teresa's mother's maiden name was "Luciano".

I am giving all of this information because maybe it can help locate someone who is part of Teresa Mainolfi's family from Cervinara.

I know that Teresa had gone back to Cervinara quite a few times with her daughters to visit her family.

If anyone can search in Italy or tell me how to search there for possible relatives I would REALLY APPRECIATE any help.

Sincerely,
Lori Swiston

You can check for current persons with those surnames for the town of origin here:

http://www.paginebianche.it/index.html

cognome=surname
dove=town
cerca=search

and send a "potential relative letter" copied from this site:

Thank You so much for your help wldspirit and saunj.

Wldspirit: I'll try to check the town with the surname of current persons.
I had no idea I could do that. Thanks.

Saunj: I'll try that priest, also I'll look up ship's manifest on ancestry.com as you did- thanks for the advice.

Hi Lori,

If you are also interested in tracing the families in Cervinara, you can do so though the films of the civil registries of this town that can be ordered though your local LDS-Family History Center.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... o+civile++

Locate your FHC.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

If you need further information on obtaining these films or have any questions, just let us know.

Hope this helps.
