Rinella Ancestry

Postby Jsks916 » 09 Feb 2007, 17:45

Still hoping someone can help me with the Rinella ancestry. I'm trying to find my grandparents' parents from Sicily. They were Anthony Rinella and Catherine (Chiara) Scalia from Termini Imerse.
Thanks all!

Hi!
From your other post:
vj

I also am having a hard time finding out my grandparents' parents. They came from Sicily in about 1917 and went to Toronto. They then came to Akron, Ohio. My grandfather was Anthony Rinella and he married Catherine (Chiara) Scalia. He was born around 1896 and she was born around 1898. He died in Akron in 1965 and she died in Lorain in 1983. They had 3 children, Joseph born 1915, Rose born in 1917 and Sam (Salvatore) born in 1920. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi Jsks916,

If you are interested in obtaining the ship's manifest, you may want to contact the National Archives of Canada.>

http://www.archivescanada.ca/car/car_e.asp?l=e&a=p&v=7

To trace the family in Termini Imerese (note correct spelling), you can order/rent the LDS films of the civil registries (birth, marriage & death acts) for this town through your local LDS-Family History Center.

Available films (1820-1910)>

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... o+civile++

To locate your nearest FHC>

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Additional information on ordering these films>

http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... =2581.html

To help with translating the records, your FHC has for a small fee an Italian-English genealogical word list that I find very helpful. They may also have an I to E dictionary available.

Word of caution: Due to the Italian naming tradition, it's useful to have parents' names prior to viewing the films. You may want to obtain Canada and/or US documentation that may provide this information (birth & baptismal records for their children, death records, ss applications, etc.).

Hope this helps & if you need further assistance, have any questions or anything else, please don't hesitate to ask.

Happy hunting!

:) jcsm
