Colaianni, Carratelli, Tonti families!!!

Postby mardg25 » 23 Feb 2007, 22:55

I've been researching my family tree and i have come to a halt. I am stuck on Alfredo Colaianni how married Flora Carratelli. I believe they both used to live in San Pietro Avellana. Alfredo's parents were Albenzio and Juisepna and Flora's parents were Pietro and Maria Tonti. Both Alfredo and Flora moved to the United states between 1920 and 1928. Alfredo came before Flora did. If anyone else has anymore information that would help out alot. Thanks

Could you tell us what info you are looking for? Have you a manifest for them? Have you placed them on a Census and located them in the Death Index? Just trying to narrow down what you need! :D

It may also help if you provide an approximate age of birth for Alfredo and his wife.

Yes that is Flora. She was born in S. Pietro Italy June 2 1902 and died Oct 14, 1985 in Pennsylvania. Her husband Alfredo was born in Italy Aug 14 1896 and died May 31 1951 in Pennsylvania. Alfredo came to America first but I have no record of him coming here. Flora arrived in Ellis Island Jan 19 1929 on the boat called the Roma and she was heading to Blyethedale Pennsylvania were her husband Alfredo lived. I don't know the birth's or the deaths of Albenzio and Juispena Colaianni or Pietro Carretelli or Maria Tonti.

Possible 1930 Census for Colaianni Family (on Ancestry as Polarmi family)

Elizabeth, Allegheny, PA
Alfred Colaianni, age 37, immigration year 1900. naturalized, coal miner
Flora, wife, age 28, immigration year 1928, alien
Giuseppina, daughter, age 4 months, born PA
Based on census marriage year calculates to about 1928

If Alfredo immigrated about 1900, he could have returned to Italy to marry Flora, then returned to the US which would mean there should be two ship manifests for him, one circa 1900 and one circa 1928. The other possibility is that they were married by proxy.

My family is the Colaianni (Colianni) family from San Pietro Avellana. I have translated many films of births, marriages and deaths from 1809 to 1899 and the census from 1852 and 1869 from the town. I may be able to help you with more information.

Also if you go to Mark DiVecchio's genealogy site, you will find a lot of information that links into those names... (I have sent him a lot of info for his site on the translated records)
