1900 Census Akron Ohio-Scalia or Rinella
Re: 1900 Census Akron Ohio-Scalia or Rinella
Thanks for all the research. I'll go through all this and try to figure it out. There's definitely a relation somewhere.
Maybe Chiara and Anthony weren't married in Canada. I assumed they were since their first 2 children were born there. The third was born in Akron, Ohio. Maybe they were married in Akron.
I'll try to find out more.
Thanks again!

Yes I think there is. I recognize a lot of these names. My Aunt Mary was a Scalia and she was from New Jersey. And yes, when she married my uncle, they had to get special permission because they were cousins. My uncle was Joseph Rinella. My Grandmother's maiden name was Scalia. I believe one of her cousins or brother settled in New Jersey when they came from Sicily. Check some of the posts that go with the Rinella name and there are a few ship manifests listed that show some of names you have.
by the way, you look remarkably like Harrison Ford.

Re: 1900 Census Akron Ohio-Scalia or Rinella
This census is actually showing my family records. Catherine Rinella (Caterina Quattrocchi was her maiden name) was my great grandmother. The son listed as Joseph was my grandfather. I too am trying to solve the mystery here of who her husband was. On her naturalization petition it is listed as 'Santo' with a birth place of Termini, Palmero, Italy and nothing more.VaDeb wrote:Jsks916,
Just a word of caution. Seems there are 2 different families living in the same county in the same ward in this 1930 census. Also similar names. Both have a daughter named Rose and a son named Joseph. Due to naming traditions the male head of families MAY have been brothers.
Make sure to check all documents you get that they pertain to the correct family. Also, there could be value in researching the other family also. You will gain info to help seperate them. May learn how they are related.
This is for the census record Nuccia posted.

Any takers on this mystery?

Very interesting as I live in Cuyahoga Falls. And the dry cleaners was owned by a Joe Rinella?? I believe we are cousins. You probably have relatives named Scalia and Bonfiglio too.
