Great Grandfather in Italian Army

Postby vicwargo » 04 Mar 2007, 19:18

OK I just received another piece of information and I wasnt sure how to follow it. But I know all you experts will have some good advice for me. My grandmother just told me that my Great Grandfather served in the Italian Army before coming to America. I thought I was getting close as to the town he was from with the Dragoni and Alvignano info but now I think that is probably where my Great Grandmother was from. Grandma says she thinks he was from Northern Italy. Any ideas on what I should do with the italian army info? Or maybe I just need to hold onto that piece for a little longer.

ciao,
I am just getting started in "the search" my grandfather Vincezo Correale fought inWWI for the Italian Army would love some background data on him. I do not know where here is from only that his passenger report from Ellis Island states that he is from Valle Luciano and the port he deported from was Napoli in1920.
My father has always said he was from Salerno. would love to know the truth and more information on my family but do not know where to begin.
Keep me posted on anything you may find helpful.
Gracias

Conscription records are held at the archives, and are available after a period of 75 years.
You must know the province/region from which your ancestor came.
It would also help to know the birthdate, and parents name to ascertain the exact match....otherwise you may end up with the records for the same John Doe.
