find a comune

Postby johnmilano » 18 Mar 2007, 01:36

Hi guys,

I have to write a letter to a comune in Italy.
although, i'm not sure which comune!

My great grandmother was from Gallico (RC),
so which comune, and what's the address that
I write to, to get her birth certificate?

thanks
JOHN

I believe this would be the address...

Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Gallico
89055 GALLICO RC
ITALY

For help with writing a standard letter..

Hope this helps.

You could also order the Microfilm from The LDS church, and research within them yourself at a local Family History Center (which is so much more exiting from my perspective) they have the Civil Registrations of Birth, Marriage and Death 1809-1910.

The film numbers are here.

Keep us posted!

Nuccia,

are you sure this is the address?
it doesn't have a street name or anything???
can anyone confirm?

Because it's a localita of the Citta di Reggio di Calabria,
so i'm not sure if I send it to the comune
of the Citta di Reggio di Calabria or if
Gallico has one of their own.

JOHN

John, Nuccia is spot on, that is the correct address. This is the beauty of working with The Stato Civile (Civil Registration Office) in Italy. You do not need the exact street address, your letter will arrive in the correct place by following that format. You could substitute any town in Italy with the appropriate Zip code and Province code (RC) and it would reach them.

Gallico is the town or Comune, Reggio Di Calabria is the Province or Provincia (RC) The records you seek are most accessible at the Comune level.

hmmmm

well when i type in "Gallico" at this website:
http://www.comuni.it/link/index.htm

it doesn't list gallico having a comune.
when you type in "Calabria"
there comes up a comune for Comune di Reggio Calabria (RC).

any thoughts?

Reggio Calabria is a much larger city and quite seperate from Gallico (It is also the name of the Province, and not to be confused). Use the address Nuccia has provided, she is correct and you will find your records there. Trust her, believe me she is quite familiar with ordering records from Italy.
