Dilluvio/Delisi family
Dilluvio/Delisi family
I am new to this site and am seeking some help in beginning my search for my family's background. My father's father was Settimo Dilluvio who arrived in the US in 1911 from Borgetto, Sicily with my grandmother Giovanna Delisi and my aunt Margherita Dilluvio who was just a few months old. My father was born in NYC in 1915. I have been able to trace the Delisi side a bit but have not made any headway on the Dilluvio side. Settimo died in NYC sometime between 1915 and 1928, cannot locate any death, burial information. He might have had a brother in the US before he arrived named "Sam" but I can find no record of Sam arriving in the US. I would like to locate any siblings my grandfather Settimo might have had and to trace his parents, etc.
I will be visiting Borgetto, Sicily in May. Any suggestions on how to start a search now and to continue in Sicily would be appreciated.
William

Re: Dilluvio/Delisi family
Thank you all for your help so far. The pictures of 1115 First Avenue are amazing! I lived there above the store from about 1948 to 1959. Settimo was gone by then but the Delisi grand uncles Antonino and Vincenzo still ran the store, by then a grocery, and I have fond memories of them. Any more information would be greatly appreciated. What more can I do when I go to Sicily in May to trace the Dilluvio side? William

Re: Dilluvio/Delisi family
Valarie, Great work! Noticed one of the pictures you posted was from the Prints and Photographs section of the Library of Congress site, a great source for pictorial information. I've used it to add photos to my Ancestry site to show working conditions in the silk mills, coal mines and railroads where my relatives worked.
I don't know how much help I'll be this evening. For whatever reason, my DSL connection has lost its get up and go. That plus a seven year old system makes for a slow go. Hopefully, things will get perkier in a bit.

Re: Dilluvio/Delisi family
Hi William,
The LDS Church (Mormons) has filmed both the civil (original birth, marriage & death acts) & church records (sacraments) for the town of Borgetto.
Here is the list of films for the civil records. (1820-1902):
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... i+Borgetto+++
For the church records (1710-1916):
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... lesiastici++
They also have some census records for the town.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... etto+%28Pa++
These films can be ordered/rented through your local LDS-Family History Center (FHC).
To locate your nearest FHC:
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp
Here is a guide on obtaining these films.
http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... =2581.html
To help with translating the records, your FHC will have an Italian-English genealogical word list that you can purchase for a small fee & many will have an Italian-English dictionary available for their patrons to use.
Hope this helps. If you have any questions or need further assistance on anything, please don't hesitate to ask!
Best wishes on your research & for a wonderful trip to Sicily!

Re: Dilluvio/Delisi family
Thank you for your generous help and suggestions, they will assist me in my further search.
My grandmother, Giovanna Dilluvio (Delisi) had 6 siblings: Salvatore, Vincenzo, Antonio, Antonino, Lucia and Giuseppe. Her mother was Margherita. I am unsure of her father's name however and I cannot trace when Giuseppe, Lucia and Antonino came to the US. Margherita might have come to the US later when her husband died along with the two youngest, Lucia and Giuseppe, but I am unsure.
I still cannot get over the pictures of 1115 first avenue! Incredible and heartwarming!! Thank you once again. Any more help is greatly appreciated. William
