Maureen,
Might not be James but have a look. A Mario Maneforte from Sessa Aurunca, born about 1885, going to join cousin Antonio Speziale in Hartford.

Re: Looking for Riccio family info.
Valarie, thanks. Sometimes they come together easily.
I'm pretty sure it's the correct Umberto aka Albert Riccio.
Check his occupation in the various census years.
1910, Fireman--lock factory. Probably for a stationary boiler that supplied heat and/or power to the plant.
1920, Boiler inspector
1930, Foreman, power house

Re: Looking for Riccio family info.
I want to thank you Biff83 and wildspirit, and anyone else who helped me with the current information on my family.
I don't know how you came up with all this information but I would like to learn more so I can help others like you have helped me.
Words can't express what I feel in my heart for all your efforts, and a simple "thank you" does not seem like enough to express my gratitude.
You are all wondeful and really know your stuff.
Thanks so much.
Maureen

Re: Looking for Riccio family info.
Maureen,
As Lee said, our greatest reward is the gratitude of those we have helped. The quote in my signature below is a Calabrian proverb.
" 'Na manu lava l'atra e tutte 'e due lavanu 'a fhaccia."
One hand washes the other and together the two (hands) wash the face.
The forum is a genealogical version of a società di mutuo soccorso or a mutual aid society where members help other members. Without each other, we'd all have dirty hands and faces.
Many of us have at least a US membership to Ancestry.com where we have located the majority of the records posted for the Riccio and Manafort families. Current rates per month are about $30 or a one time yearly payment of about $155 for the US only memberhsip. I have the US version and also use Ancestry for my family tree which links ship manifests, censuses, draft registration cards, etc. to each of my family members. I've also added pictures, documents and stories and share the tree with family and friends who can view it at cost to them.
However, there is no need to join Ancestry to help. For instance, you could decide to specialize in the geography of Italy and locate online resources, maps, websites, etc. for the various birthplaces which people are researching. In another forum I belong to one of the members helps by restoring digital photos for other members. We'd love for you to help in any way you can.
Best,
Biff

Re: Looking for Riccio family info.
Hi Maureen,
Thought I'd add my welcome to the group. There's always room for more "friends" here and any help you can give another is always appreciated. People learn in different ways and I had the pleasure of learning from all the wonderful people here..I'm still learning new things everyday.
The one thing I regret though is that I didn't take the time to buy books and read up on genealogical research before I got to this point. I think it would have gone smoother if I had. Over the last little while I've taken the time to buy books (you can always take them out at your local library as well). They've really helped a lot.
Some of my favourites..
Italian Genealogical Records: How to Use Italian Civil, Ecclesiastical, & Other Records in Family History Research by Trafford Cole
Finding Italian Roots: The Complete Guide for Americans by John P. Colletta
The Weekend Genealogist by Marcia Iannuzzi Melnyk
Maybe we should start a new heading in the Off Topic Board where we can post our favourite books/resources?

Re: Looking for Riccio family info.
When I first joined this site I was completely unaware how Italian research differed from American research.......back then very few records were provided for posters......newbies were taught the method of research and where to go for further info......I did ALOT of reading.... In time I learned, along with alot of patience from senior members..... as I had a never ending curiousity for every little detail.
Biff is right....you don't need a paid subscription to any database, just a desire to learn and to guide others.......and if you notice, lately I have not been doing much "digging"...but am trying to strike a balance between teaching others, providing links and a few records to get posters started.
You don't need to specialize in any one area, whatever you feel comfortable doing....just jump in!!
