Morrelli

Postby t4theriot » 12 Apr 2007, 21:39

Am looking for my g-g-grandfather Joseph Morrelli (also spelled Morelli, Morrell & Morel). LDS Family Searched has him as being born 8/1839 in Milano, Italy. 1920 Census states him has immigrating to US in 1865 & being naturalized 1880. However, I can not find his paperwork. Where do I look?
He married in California in 1876 and on his marriage record his mother & father are listed as Juan & Catarina Morrelli.

Hi and Welcome to the Forum :D !
His naturalization records are probably in the courthouse
in the county where he was naturalized.
Do you know where he was living in 1880?
Thanks! vj

I've looked on the Santa Barbara Naturalization site and he is not on it. I've found his info regarding his California marriage & burial info but nothing pre 1880. Where else could I look for immigration info?

from about.com

Where can I find Naturalization Records?

Pre-1906:
Prior to 1906, any "court of record"
(municipal, county, state, or Federal) could grant U.S. citizenship.
As a general rule, the National Archives does not have naturalization
records created in State or local courts.

However, a few indexes and records have been donated to
the National Archives from counties, states and local courts
and are available as National Archives microfilm publications.

For pre-1906 naturalizations:
Contact the State Archives for the state where the naturalization
occurred to request a search of state, county, and local courts
records.

CA State Archives

Contact the NARA regional facility that serves the state
where naturalization occurred to request a search of Federal
court records

Sorry, we don't have better news. Have you emailed the
Santa Barbara Genealogical Society? They may have some
good insight.
