I can't tell you about Pofi, in particular, but we brought a copy of my grandmother's Italian birth certificate, pictures, and funeral cards of lots of relatives. Our ancestral towns were quite small and we just chatted with people in bars, shops, etc...The funeral cards were the most helpful because they had birth and death dates. We met lots of interested people with the same last name, simply by word of mouth. Within minutes, a newspaper shop filled with about half a dozen people bearing my grandmother's last name. None thought they were related, but it was a really neat experience. The gathering even spilled onto the street! Also, if you don't speak Italian, start studying! All of our inquiries were in Italian (broken Italian!) However, we either knew enough that we were able to be understood or people were very, very kind and patient. (Perhaps the latter.) Also, do you know if there is any Pofi Italian club or association in America? I was lucky enough that one of our towns had one. The American club made introductions for us in my ancestral village. We were greeted by a little welcoming committee and escorted through the town. On the other hand, in my husband's ancestral village, we just asked shopkeepers, etc...We did not find anyone (well maybe one distant cousin), but we made some life-long friends in the journey. We only had one or two days per village and did not even tackle to archives because our reading ability in Italian in quite limited.

Conti831,
Are you by any chance related to the Conti family that operated a restaurant called Casa Conti in Glenside, PA in the 50's, 60's & 70's? The owner was Joseph Conti, brother of Lazzare Conti dob abt 1889.

Louis41,

I don't know. My Grandparents were both gone decades before I was born.

If those Conti's were from Pofi I sure would like to know more.kgconti@verizon.net,Grandmothers surname was Recine.

Well, they were cousins of my father, so I know I will be looking into them a little in the near future. If I find they are from that area I will get back in touch and let you have what I find. If you find they are related to you, please let me know and perhaps we can share info.
