Hi John!
Here's a link that explains a bit about the Italian census
Italy Research at about.com
You'll really need the town of birth since Italian records are
kept primarily at a local level.

hello valarie, thankyou for that, i know of the family history centre and plan to make a visit soon, the problem seems at this end in the uk not many records of immigrants where saved, i know my grandmothers complete history in england, its where she came from is the problem, we know it is italy, but where. i have put out an appeal in the local press to see if there is anyone on mary contes side left and might know something, the trouble i am finding is that when i go to the local archives office, they do not seem very interested or that they are just keepers of records and do not know enough about research, never mind i will just keep plugging away, thankyou very much for your help, take care, regards john
