Fuoco or Fella surnames

Postby janisweber » 20 May 2007, 21:24

Does anyone have any information about either the Fuoco family or the Fella family from Viticuso? Specifically, either descendants or ancestors of:

Giuseppe Fuoco born 27 JAN 1868 - his father was Vincenzo Fuoco. Giuseppe Fuoco married Filomena Fella in Viticuso - her date of birth was 4 APr 1868. Giuseppe Fuoco emigrated to the U.S. in 1908 - Filomena stayed in Viticuso with their children, Giovanni Antonio and Gerardo (Geraldo) until 1919 when she finally agreed to join her husband in the U.S.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Hi janisweber..

Welcome to the group!

Can you tell us what type of information you were looking for? Is it US records or Italian? What research have you already done? Always good to have a goal...meanwhile, we'll see what we can find for you.

As a side note..no need to post the same question on more than one board. It will just make things more difficult as people may duplicate information so if its ok with you, lets put everything on one thread. If you like, you can remove your other posts (just go back and delete them).

Could this be your Giuseppe? Is it possible he made a trip prior to 1908..? The age is a bit off but I think the brother is listed having the same surname as Giuseppes wife..another set of eyes would be good here..and I've noticed, another trip to the eye doctor for me!

Thank you so much for your help! You are right about the goal - I really am trying to glean information from Italy on ancestors and/or descendants/relatives in Italy. The John (Giovanni) you found is indeed my Giovanni - I know that he arrived in US and then went to Florida (Jacksonville) to be with his father, Giuseppe, and the rest of the family - just missing the Italian pieces.

Also, thanks for the info on how to get rid of the extra posting - after posting it, I realized it was in the wrong place but didn't know what to do about it.

Hi Janis..

No problem..glad we could help. :D

If you're looking for info from Italy, then there are two routes you can take. The first is to check on www.familysearch.org. You can see if microfilm is available to rent. Here's an outline written by Trish which explains the process..

http://italiangenealogy.tardio.com/Foru ... =2581.html

A great guide to researching vital records (or civil records as they're known in Italy) is this link..

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... =Italy.ASP

Read it online or print it out..you'll learn a lot from it.

Another option you have is to write away to the commune in your ancestors town and ask for copies of the birth, marriage or death certificates you are interested in. But I would first read through the above info and decide.

You can also look through the Italian White Pages to see if there are any persons with your surnames still living in the town(s) of interest..

Let us know what your next step is and we'll see if we can help!
