It could mean that..or it could mean Raffaele Conte..or Conti. Are you looking at a specific record and think the person changed their name? You may want to look for other clues like birth years, spouse, siblings, parents etc before assuming though.

Hope this helps. :D

hello nuccia, thankyou, it certainly helps, my grandmother felicella and her sister maria came from italy between 1901 and 1908 when they both married grimsby fishermen. i am trying to find out where in italy they came from and thought if i could work out the correct spelling of names i know it might help in my quest. on both maria and felicella,s marriage certs. in england it gave the name of their father as masch aquilla conte(deceased) i wondered if you would know anything about their fathers name. thanks again, kind regards john

Off hand i wouldn't know but I was wondering..do any of you or your relatives speak Italian at all? Even a dialect? Sometimes this would at least narrow things down a bit.

Also, what year did the girls get married in? Do you know their birthdates at all.? Their birth certificates? The only way to find out about their father is collect all the records you can before attempting to find out about their father. It will really help narrow things down for you.

Hope this helps a bit...

hello nuccia, thankyou, felicella was born in 1890 according to her marriage and death certs. maria was born on the 10/02/1892 according to her headstone where she is buried. they both had five and six children respectively and there might also be another little clue regarding marias second child, when she registered raphael she put in the mothers maiden name column dinella, this was probablly a mistake on her part and she put down her mothers maiden name, i wondered if that name might be from a particular part of italy. thanks again, any other ideas would be helpful, regards john there is one more thing both girls where married in grimsby in 1908 to local fishermen.
