Family Seals/Crests (Bigari/Rosetti and others)

Postby italstal1066 » 01 Apr 2003, 09:34

Hey everyone, I was just wondering where to start looking for my ancestor's family crest. I know there are some pay sites out there, but I don't really trust them. The surname I'm looking for is Bigari or Rosetti. I have no idea where to begin so any info would be great.

There is one pay site that while commercial at least gives you an indication if the family surname has a family heraldic crest. It is in their interests to maintain refernece books of family names that are identified by name and not much else. kBigari surname currently has 28 persons in Italy with that surname. 15 are in Rome, 5 in Agrigrento (Marche region) and five in venice and Verona. There are 657 surnames for Rosetti spread alll over Italy and without a point of origin for your family you can only trace the name which becomes pointless if you are interested in your family connection to that name. Bigariu would make a better vehicle for your research. You can begin you research by reading material on heraldry in the internet and for discovering if there is a heraldic connection go to www.infokey.com and insert the surname. If you know where your family originated from in Italy then you can do some research by obtaining reference books for the area. Presumably you can read or know someone who can read Italian. Peter

Peter...I used your link for the LONETTO surname. No hits. :( Does that mean I'll be dealing with another spelling farther back :?:
