translation help

Postby denman922 » 19 Jun 2007, 19:51

I wrote an e-mail using Google translate, I don't quite understand the response I got.

I am trying to ask for a "certificato di stato di famiglia originario"

I WROTE:

Chi erano i suoi genitori?

Anton 1888, Ida 1892, Maria 1893, Anna 1895, Carolina 1901, Aloyse??, Luigi???

La sua moglie era Antonia Bonati. Hanno sposato 1880?

Potete aiutarli?

Grazie, Dennis

THE RESPONSE:

Egregio Signor Rotolo,
Distinti saluti
Dott. Margot Pizzini

denman,

I'll give this a shot but would appreciate anyone else's input since I'm a novice at translating.

Dear Mr. Rotolo,
At the provincial archive of Bolzano we have microfilm of the books of births, marriages, and deaths for the province of Bolzano catalogued by comune. It is not possible to do a search unless you can let us know the date of birth or the city or village of birth for Giacomo Metz. A publication of Tyrolean family names states the name Metz as coming from Val Gardena/Sudtirolo. In the respective comunes of Santa Cristina and Orisei however there was no result for the birth of Giacomo Metz in about 1857.
Best Regards,
Dr. Margot Pizzini

It appears that you'll need to determine the city or village of Giacomo's birth in order for the office to locate any records.

Hope this helps.

Biff, really nice translation.
Looks like denman just needs to include Bronzolo
in his request?

I have never gotten charged for any of the docs I have recieved from Italy, so, I can't complain.

Your request was very time consuming and its normally not our duty to
undertake research for others. We help researchers to get their work
started and give a short introduction in our archival materials. Your
case was an exemption, in the future you have to do the research yourself
or send a person doing it for you. I am also from Bronzolo, so I send
you best wishes from here.
