Hi Sherry.......nothing concrete yet....as I said before, going further back on census is speculative without both parents names, especially given the common name of James York. Also, the birthyears and state of birth are not consistent with the records we do have......
Still hoping to locate something for you.....
But I would send for the death certificates of James and Manda, may give you further clues to go on.
Manda's name concerns me......is it in fact a given name, or more likely a nickname......... :?

I just received a transcript from the historical society for the 1880 census. Can someone please send me a link to view this, because there is something not correct. It is page 5 and 6, district No 4 Enumeration district No 171.
Sherry
As for the death certificates, I do not know dates of death for my grand parents, so how could I obtain these? Also, is there a way to get copies of the birth certificates?

Ok, here is what I have found to date:

First, some links:
http://www.netease.net/wayne/cemeterylist.htm#A
each cemetery has a listing, you can start by searching each one for the surnames of York,
Mclean/McClain.
I found this to be of interest at the Old Town Cemetery:

YORK, Jim, 8 Jan., 1856--26 Mar., 1952
" , Maudy, 12 Mar., 1886

Info from the state archives:
http://www.tennessee.gov/tsla/history/v ... .htm#index

link to Wayne county for research help:

Thank you so much, and the family tree is definitely my family, so I can't wait to hear back from them! As for the 1880 census, this is the one I want to see. Could you send me the image to look at as I had on the previous ones? As you can see, the head of the house is listed as Marida, which is a womans name. Not sure why it is like this so I would like to view it more thoroughly.
