Draft Cards

Postby BillieDeKid » 01 Aug 2007, 02:27

How do I get military information about my grandfather. I see other people posting draft card information. How do I go about getting it?

His name was Domenico Mangiardi. Arrived at Ellis Island 1909. Was from Brognaturo Italy. Would have been about 19 years old when he came to the US. His moms name was Teresa.

The story I've been told is that he joined the US army to gain citizenship so he would be able to get my grandmother and uncle to the US.

So far I'm hitting a brick wall.

When my grandmother and uncle came in 1920 or 1921 he was living in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. When he joined the military I'm not sure where he was living. It could be Wisconsin, New York, Illinois or Rhode Island.

These are my best guesses based on stories I had heard.

No, that is not my grandfather. His wifes name (my grandmother) was Maria Concetta Tedeschi. My grandfather was born about 1890. But thank you so much for taking the time to look for me. I really appreciate it.

I haven't placed him on any census. I don't have access to them. I know that by 1930 he was in Mineral Point, Wisconsin so I believe he should be in the Wisconsin 1930 census. The county is Iowa county and address was 1012 state street, Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

For the 1920 census..........I don't know if he was in Wisconsin or not.

Can you help me with the census?

If the census hasn't been found before I get back, I'll run the name and see what turns up for you.

I'm not quite sure what to make of everything. I know that during WWII my family lived in Mineral Point Wisconsin. My aunt and mom were born there. And my grandfathers birthday was July 2 or 3. So I don't think this would be him.

I know he was in the army, he died in the veterans hospital in Madison, WI in 1959.

Could there have been a different war/conflict that the US was involved in between 1909 and 1920 or 21. I always assumed it was WWI but maybe not.
