Thank you, VJ/also update

Postby luvmynonnie » 26 Oct 2007, 19:26

Pertains to paternal side of my family and the surnames: Bosco and Ricca.

A heartfelt thank you, VJ...a while back I posted that I needed some opinions reading a name on a ship's manifest and you looked at it for me and thought it said *Ricca*

You also said that both Bosco and Ricca surnames occur in the province of Agrigento.

Anyway, because of that info I searched on the internet and found a website that has a database of info from Sicily and some of the comunes/provinces. There was a separate website that had some of the birth records partially transcribed in Agrigento and long story short....I am fairly certain that I have found my great grandparents marriage record and the birth record of one of their children! The best part of all of this is the marriage document lists my great grandparent's parent's names.

The person I emailed found the documents, made me a copy and then transcribed the info in English for me...none of this would of been possible if NOT FOR YOU, VJ! Your suggestion about Agrigento was right on the money :D

My great great grandparents names are very difficult to make out...the copy is dark in that section of the document but I am hoping that the person that did the translation for me has lots of experience reading these things :D I don't have a scanner or I would post them for you to see

One question I do have is that on the marriage record translation the name of my great great grandmother is: Anna Gonernale. I have looked and looked at this and just don't think that's what it says. I went back and found the Ellis Island manifest and Rose Ricca (my great grandmother) and her two daughters are listed. The kids traveled under the name of their father (Bosco) BUT further up the page is the name of Anna Governale!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could that possibly be my great great grandmother and that she traveled with her daughter, Rose Ricca and the two kids? If so, was it common that they were not listed as traveling together? The fact that she is further up the list does that mean she wasn't standing with them when they boarded? Or does that even make a difference?

I know this post is long...again, thank you from the bottom of my heart, VJ.

Lib,

Persons traveling together or related were not always listed consecutively. Here's a copy of my wife's maternal grandmother Lucia Pace, line 15. Her mother Concetta Platania is on line 17.

Lib,
Perhaps a coincidence?

Did you notice Anie Ricca living at the
same address as the Bosco family in 1900?
1900 Bosco Ricca census
She’s the same age as Anna Governale on
your 1892 manifest
Immigration year 1889 (same as her husband Charles)
(btw, wonder who the Antonio was that was traveling with her)
---

The same Charles and Annie? in 1910, living
with the Liotta/Aliotta family (who were also on the above
1900 census
)
Note: both Charles Ricca & Joseph Liotta were bakers
in 1900...

2341 Atlantic Ave
1910 Liotta Ricca census
---

Liotta/Ricca marriage
Joseph & Lena? From 1900 & 1910 census
Liotto Giuseppe Dec 25 1895 Kings County
Certificate #6384
Ricca Calogera Dec 25 1895 6384 Kings

Oh my GOSH, Valarie!
I never saw the Anie Ricca on the same census...I am *almost* speechless, LOL.
I do think she is the same Anna Governale on the manifest...I absolutely am becoming addicted to Genealogy. Don't know who the Antonio was that she traveled with.
I do know for sure that Anna Ricca, (my great grandmother) father's name was Calogero and her mother's name was Anna. Hmmmm, not sure who the Ricca Calogera 1895 marriage pertains to....I will go to the site and have a look. Heck, maybe Anna and Calogero remarried in the states?
Once again, my head is spinning but boy oh boy is my heart singing! Sounds pretty corny but that's how this feels!
You are an angel and thank you. Will let you know what I find out.

not sure who the Ricca Calogera 1895 marriage pertains to

Lib,
Perhaps the 1895 marriage belongs to the family
Anna & Charles are living with in 1900 & 1910 -
Joseph & Lena Liotta?
The age of their oldest (14) may coincide with an
1895 marriage. 1900 census indicates married 5 yrs...

Could Lena Liotta be Calogera Ricca (named for her father??)?
Is it possible Lena is Anna''s daughter (1910 census
for Annie indicates 3 children born/living)?
Note: 1910 census also states Charles and Annie are
Joseph Liotta's in-laws  ...

Lot's of questions :D .
