acquistapace geanology

Post by rivee »

Am looking for any/all info for the Italian surname of Acquistapace. One ancestor moved to the Napa Valley at the turn of the century and either married there or before he got there to an Italian woman

Hi Rivee and welcome to the forum. Can you give any additional information like a first name? Do you know about what year the person was born, where they settled, if they had children - if so full names and approximate years of birth and if born US or Italy? What was the womans name that he married (full name including maiden if possible)? Where in Italy were they or he from? Are you looking for census information from the US or are you trying to search backwards to research your heritage?

I looked at manifests using the spelling you provided and there are 121 manifests, but you would need to provide the persons name and also the area in Italy the were from (that would be useful).

The more information you can provide the easier it will be for people on the forum to help you. Let us know what you've got and what your looking for.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Oh my!
This is the main family name in the village where I now live.It is a 'Valtellina' name which is the large valley just above Lake Como. Of the 1020 inhabitants of the village the largest 'family name' is Acquistapace with nearly 250 now. They are followed at a distance by the others...

(This was in 2001 - and has remained almost the same)
214.06 Acquistapace
36.14 Pedroncelli
33.36 Digoncelli
30.58 Deghi
27.80 Barini

The house I purchased belonged to one of the Acquistapace group...and it started out as a cattle stall in the early 1500's and was gradually enlarged and made into a house owned/inhabited by the same family for nearly 500 years! In my lane in the village there are 16 houses, 12 of which are still owned and occupied by Aquistapace families.....EVERYONE (it seems) here is related in some way or other to this family! Even our Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Technical Officer are all Acquistapace's too....

If I can be of any help please ask!
If you think education is expensive - try ignorance!

Thanks for the response. The person I'm actually looking for, is the Wife's (Josephine) maiden name, wife of John Acquistapace who were both born in Italy. John was born around 1875 or so and Josephine was born (I believe) around 1893. Don't know where in Italy they were from. They both settled in the wine country (Napa Valley) as dairy farmers in California and had 6 children. Leo, Rusty, Loraine, Alice, Rita, and can't think of the last one.

Possible manifest for John. There is another John, born in 1875, but he came with a wife and children. None of those names match. Josephine is so much younger, are you sure they were married in Italy? Do you have any census records?

I know Josephine was born in Italy. I don't know for sure if they were married in the US or in Italy, but there first born was around 1914 or 15.

Hi MJ,

1910 census also has Josephine's sister Katie Capuscia ? age 4 living with the family.

However, if Josephine was born in Italy and the first child was born in 1914/1915, all three census records are incorrect. :(
