Cacioppo and Orlando families from Camporeale, Palermo

Post by nmartinelli »

My mother has been wanted to trace her geneology... I am starting the process for her. Her mother was Anunziata Cacioppo (born June 10, 1906) and her father was Giuseppe Orlando (born April 23, 1892). They were both from Camporeale, Palermo. Could anyone suggest a sight where I can find more info on their ancestors and other relatives?

Thank you!

Dear Nancy the only websites that you can use to review family genealogy are the www.ellisisland.org website if your ancestors entered the USA as immigrants at NYC. If they came to other ports then there are no websites for viewing this information save for index numbers relating to their last names which has to be viewed on microfilm. The only other website is the telephone directory for Camporeale in which there are 7 Cacioppo surnamed persons and 9 Orlando surnamed persons by full names, addresses and telephone numbers. This website is www.paginebianche.it and put surname in the first line and Camporeale in the third line and click CERCA.

Now if youi go toyour nearest Mormon family history library you can rent out the microfilm for Camporeale, Palermo province which reflects all the births, marriages and deaths from1824 to 1910. (go to www.familysearch.org for location of library nearest your home). Please be careful since the micorfilm also has records for Camporeale in Trapani province so be sure to request palermo Camporeale records. The cost is aboiut $5.00 and you can use their viewers without charge and make copies. There is a book titled Discovering your Italian Ancestors by Lynn Nelson which is a companion book for the microfilm.

There is also another book which covers Italian genealogy and that book is titled Italian Genealogical Records By Trafford R. Cole and can be borrowed or purc hased for your library and enable you t conduct your own researches.

Sometimes it is easier to do some hunting in US records before looking for Italian records. Have you looked at any census records yet, or any naturalization, marriage or death records? Can you give us a little more information. For example, where did they first settle? Names of siblings and/or children. Were they married in US or Italy? Once you start to collect this information it will be easier to find other sources online.

My grandfather Antonino Inzerillo is the son of Rosalia Orlando & Calogero Inzerillo from Camporeale. Antonino was born in 1868. Maybe there is a connection?

My family (Cacioppo) is also from the same area. 3 brothers imigrated here seperately: Leonardo, Carlo and Michele. Their parents imigrated here later. I don't have clear first names on them though.
