Romano, Cosenza Italy, late 1800s

Postby jeri71 » 28 Dec 2007, 03:08

Joseph (Giuseppe) Romano left Italy in or around 1914 and came to Carbon County, Utah. He was born in 1886.

Mary Romano (same last name, I think they were cousins) came to America in 1912-3 and they were married in early 1913. She was born in 1893.

The names are so common that I'm struggling to find anything about them on Ellis Island. 8O

Joseph may have had a brother named Frank or John that came to America with him. His father and mother were Carlo Romano and Minnie (Filomina?) Morbella. I think they stayed in Italy.

I do not know that any of Mary's family ever came to America. :?: She was also from southern Italy.

If there's anyone out there with more information or the ability to help me find more of this family I would greatly appreciate it.

Do you know if they came from the city of Cosenza or the province? If they came from the city that will narrow your search down dramatically. But if they came from the province there are 155 towns in that province.
They are all listed here:

The plot thickens!! I have Joseph, aged 21 (1886) arriving on the Sannio on 6/11/07 with Raffaele Romano aged 39, both from Casalnuovo (lines 10 and 21)..now Casalnuovo could be in two places.... Casalnuovo di Napoli, (NA) 80013 or casalnuiovo Monterotaro (FG) 71033 (campania and Puglia, respectively. Both destined to different addresses. =Peter=

According to the censuses posted by Nuccia, Giuseppe declared his first arrival in USA on 1903, so I found this record :

New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957
about Giuseppe Romano
Name: Giuseppe Romano
Arrival Date: 6 May 1903
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1886
Age: 17
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Naples, Italy
Ethnicity/Race/Nationality: Italian
Ship Name: Patria
Search Ship Database: Search the Patria in the 'Passenger Ships and Images' database
Port of Arrival: New York, New York
Line: 30
Microfilm Serial: 15
Microfilm Roll: T715_351
Page Number: 66

Last residence: ALTILIA , he was going to meet his cousins Achille and Antonio Mirabelli in Johnston PA. I think he could be him from the annotation on his name (19X2716-505- 5-31-40) the first number 19 is the U.S. Naturalitazion Disctrict Number of Salt Lake City - Utah....
