Surnames Barone, DiGregorio, Messina

Postby annettekp » 16 Jan 2008, 22:35

Hi Everyone!

I recently lost my grandmother and would like to write a family history so that I might preserve my Italian Heritage. My family came from Castelamarre del Golfo, Sicily. My grandparents came over in 1953 to the US and settled in Pittsburgh PA.

Here it what I know.....Lorenzo Barone, the son of Antonio Barone and Marietta Di Gregorio, was born in 1914 and passed in 1990. He married in 1936 to Anna Como (1917-2007), daughter of Carlo Como and Giovanna Cusamano. Carlo and Giovanna came to America in 1912 (Giovanna's mother accompanied them to America, her name was Angela Cipolla) and settled in Carnegie PA where Anna was born, however, when she was just 18 months old, they returned to Sicily where they raised their children.

If anyone knows any more about the Digregorio family (I believe Marietta's father's name may have been Michael and her mother Guiseppa Messina?), or any of the other families mentioned here, please give me a yell.

Thanks SO much, Annette

Hi Annette and welcome to the forum. Are you looking for information on current relatives or did you want to search back through the early 18 and 1900's etc.?

Regards,
Elizabeth

Hi Annette

Castellammare del Golfo, province: Trapani - region: Sicilia

There are microfilms through the LDS church that you can order and view for births, marriages and death records.

Maria Maria Santissima del Soccorso 161 through 1910 (church)
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... siastici++

San Antonio di Padova 1865 through 1910 (church)
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... siastici++

1820 through 1910 (civil records of birth, marriage, death etc.)
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... o+civile++

1594 through 1811 (census records)
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... lammare+++

Write down the films you'd like to view. Locate your nearest Family History Center (FHC).
http://www.familysearch.org/eng/Library ... et_fhc.asp

Go to your FHC and order the films to view. Cost is about $5.50 USD and takes about 4 weeks to receive.

Looks like you'll be able to trace your ancestors back through the 1500's.

Post back if you have any questions.

Regards,
Elizabeth

Dear AnnetteKP,
Welcome to the forum and may I offer my condolences on the recent passing of your grandmother. It may help if you let us know what you need (manifests, censuses, etc). Would history be helpful to tell the story? (I found it helpful). Here are some basic links that may be a little more helpful than Peter's:

My Great grandmother was Anna Cipolla, her father was Guiseppi and we believe her mother was Guiseppina
