Spanoz ancestor

Postby margamy18 » 13 Feb 2008, 16:45

My grandfather was born in Puerto Rico in 1918. His father's last name was Spanoz. This man was a marine merchant or sailor and some how he got to Puerto Rico and got married or lived with a woman named Miguela Gonzalez. I would like information of my great grandfather such as his first name and were he came from. I have tried to find information in ancestry.com but since I do not have his first name it only shows one person coming from italy and establishing in New Jersey. If anybody knows or can point me in the right direction on how to get more information about this man I would apreciated very much. Thank you.

Yes, this is my grandfather. I found this same information in ancestry.com. What I am looking for is his father's first name and were he came from. Our grandfather used to say that he was greek but after searching in the ancestry files I saw that inmigrants from Greece wrote their last name with an s at the end, Spanos. Most of them established themselves in California. The only person that I found in the ancestry registry was Suzando Spanoz and he was an inmigrant from Italy. I am looking for the ancestors of my grandfather and hopefully we have the correct spelling of our last name to find it.

Thank you, Marga
