La Magna and it varisations La manna and Lamanna are found in Souterhn Italy and are derived from the root name Alemmanni or Alemagna meaning German. The name is listed in the Italian Surbname Dictionary.
If you wish to trace your family tree you might go to www.anzwers.org/free/italiangen/free_ge ... earch.html

Should you run into difficulties get back to us. As for heraldry you might try www.sgmprogetti.it/araldica/main.html

There is a commercial site for heraldry that boasts a Lamagna family crest (spelling exact) at www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.fc/qx/lamag ... -crest.htm

This should satisfy an initial curiousity. =Peter=

Thank you very much Peter and VJ. VJ you nailed it, that is exactly my family. My dad Pasquale was named after my great grandfather. All the names from my youth come back to me: Great Aunt's Edith, Muffy and Claudia. Great Uncle's Harry, Fred, etc. Wow..

Thanks again..
