Looking for Salminas

Postby sweetland » 05 Mar 2008, 06:36

Hello! My grandfather recently asked me to try and find out some things about his family. His mom abandoned him and his sister when he was very young, so he knows little of his heritage. All he gave me was a name... Amelia Salmina. I cannot remember if this was his mother's maiden name or his grandmothers name? But either way, anything will help.
On ancestry.com I found an Amelia Salmina who's Spouse was Philip and she had a son Peter... I am not sure if that is her though. Even if you have any information on the Salmina heritage it would help me a lot. Oh and also, all the Salmina's that I have found on the internet seem to say something like Italian-swiss? A Felix Salmina I found but I am not sure if he was related to Amelia?
Anyways I'm probably rambling... I have no idea what to look for or what to do. I just want to help my grandpa (bum bum I call him : )
Thank you!
Meghan

Moreover we have also 1930 Census for the Amelia travelling in 1912.... So I don't think she's the woman who abandoned the family....

when born your grandfather? what is the name?

also it are a :
New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1957

Birth Location Other: ascona
Page Number: 33

joining the brother in Modesto, CA...

this Emilia was unmarried in the 1940-1944, living in Modesto, CA....
the her complete name was Agata Emilia Salmina........
California Death Index, 1940-1997
about Agata Emilia Salmina
Name: Agata Emilia Salmina
Social Security #: 552341688
Sex: FEMALE
Birth Date: 13 Jan 1892

Death Date: 27 Jul 1986
Death Place: Stanislaus (Modesto, Stanislaus County, CA)
Mother's Maiden Name: Pellanda

died unmarried

in the Stockton > year 1952 > California City Directories
Agatha Salmina (always same Emilia, she used both the first names)

living with Remigio Salmina( I believe her brother) and it was also a Peter and wife Bertha Salmina.....

Peter Salmina was born in Ascona, and it was the Remigio brother also, immigrated in Modesto, California in 1925 > April > 21 > Paris ship, leaving in Ascona , Swiss, Savina Salmina sister......
I'm sure that Agatha and Agata Emilia or only Emilia are always same person... so, maybe you sure that the first name was AMELIA and not EMILIA????
Remigio born in Intragna but him father was Joe (Giuseppe) in Ascona, Swiss....
Emelia and Remigio lived in Modesto and Stockton, San Joaquin...

someone of this places are familiar with your gradfather story?
