Looking for Giovanni Figone

Postby dvader0571 » 19 May 2008, 03:27

I am looking for my great grandmother Mae's father Giovanni (John) Figone. I hae 1910 and 1920 census that list him as Mae's father with a name of Giovanni and Johny. I found a World war I draft registration card that listed a Luisa as his wife, which gave me an apparent birth date (census estimated his birth as 1887) so 4 Mar 1887. But unfortunately the 1930 census listed him as Dead.

I cannot find a death certificate because Ancestry.com doesn't list California Deaths before 1940. I know they lived in San francisco, CA but was born in Italy Codogno if the World War I draft card is correct.

I also have a potential New York Passenger List for Giovanni Figone with a final destination of SF, CA which matches the Arrival date from the census as well. he traveled on the S.S. La Savoie and arrived 1905 from Havre, France. He and listed a brother in SF already Lorenzo Figone living on 314 Pacific Ave., in SF.

I am looking or birth records to find his parents and a death certificate.

If Codogno is correct, the Family History Library has Church records on microfilm
that you can order and view at your local Family History Center:

Wow quick response! Thanks I will take a deeper look!

Luigia/Louisa is said to have arrived same year as Giovanni within the Census. I must then find my Family History center to look up those records. Every little bit helps!

What can I do with those Naturilzation notations?

Naturalization:
It appears that Giovanni may have started the process
according to his 1917 WWI Card.
Luigia may have finished the process in San Francisco
in 1942.
Here's a site with information on how to order the records.
http://www.sfgenealogy.com/norcal/calnat.htm

Also, according to your 1910 census, it appears that
Giovanni & Luigia were married about 1908.
If you don’t have a copy of their marriage record, you
can order one from the county recorder:
