As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.
Thank you very much. An old friend from Italy is coming in for a visit and I am printin gout this museum piece for him to follow in his wanderings thru the City next week.. a delightful congruence don't you think? =Peter=
What a coincidence! If you are driving, the Garibaldi Museum is Staten Island is a place I've been trying to get to every time I'm in NY. Will be home (in the Bronx) for Easter - picking up younger son who is a soon-to be ensign aboard the NOAA RV Thomas Jefferson. I may hit both places while I'm there. Hope you enjoy the museum!
