Italian American History Month
Re: Italian American History Month
I like Dean Martin, too (I'm not a big Sinatra fan). I'd say Louis Prima is my favorite, though, of those old Italian singers.
My favorite Dean Martin song is That's Amore. We just got a CD called Dino! Italian Love Songs. Some of the songs on it are pretty good, others I don't like (The Belle from Barcelona!).

I love the song volare. Im going to look up Prima on itunes. Ive heard he was very good! Is the Dino CD in Italian or English and Italian
Re: Italian American History Month
One of my favorite Louis Prima songs is Angelina. And Lazy Mary, but I can only seem to find Lou Monte's version on the internet.DeFilippis78 wrote:I love the song volare. Im going to look up Prima on itunes. Ive heard he was very good! Is the Dino CD in Italian or English and Italian
P.S.
Just listened to Volare on YouTube, I don't think I ever heard that one. Thanks. It annoys me that this was the highest rated comment, though:
"the mafia needs to whack 59 people"
It was a joke, but still.
Edited to add:
The Dean Martin album is in English. Some songs he sings partly in Italian (An Evening in Roma, for instance)

Oh the wanna-bes, I cant stand it, LOL!
Re: Italian American History Month
Neither can I! In the town I came from (which was 30% Italian) they would say "There are two kinds of people, Italians and those who wish they were Italians!"DeFilippis78 wrote:Oh the wanna-bes, I cant stand it, LOL!

These above are all from Gino Paoli, very famous in the 60's. I've always found him very romantic.
Then:

I'll bet there are! That must get really annoying.DeFilippis78 wrote:

I honestly hate the new Guido stereotype, way more than The Godfather one. Both are annoying, but now Italians are seen as loud, obnoxious buffoons, at least The Godfather made them look classy.

Re: Italian American History Month
LOL! Its just terrible because every body comes here in the summer to go to the jersey shore house and the beaches and streets are packed and every one is walking around trying to be copy cats. Even on halloween girls were dressed up as the "jersey shore"crew.I wont deny that in my own family i do have some of the muscle heads just like the show but my whole family isnt like that. With all stereo types there is some truth and some lies.

I've never really found stereotypes to be accurate about any culture. I just judge people on a person-by-person basis. I just wait for any stereotypes to be proven wrong. It never seems to fail. They are always wrong.

Re: Italian American History Month
I also just found a nice Christmas album by Albano Carrisi..."buon natale"
Re: Italian American History Month
Haha.
Albano has a beautiful voice, you know he was married with the daughter of Tyron Power and Linda Christian (50's movie stars who felt in love with Rome and came to live there for a while). Their first daughter, Ylenia, disappeared in New Orleans in the early ninetines. Never heard of her ever since, a big mistery.
He's not very popular among the youngsters, but I like him because he looks a bit like my father.
If you like melodic rock you can try Ligabue. He wrote some beautiful rock. And Vasco Rossi (I suggest you start with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=leZmTg-Ym-Q or with the live version http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=32ucXcPnwK8
Ligabue and Vasco are I think the only Italian singers that can make a sold out in San Siro stadium (80.000 seats)
Or you can try 883, my brother loves them, I find the singer has an horror voice, but words are very descriptive of the lives of youg people in Italy.

Good night!
