North African Moors in Reggio Calabria

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

North African Moors in Reggio Calabria

Postby NDR » 08 Oct 2011, 19:58

Does anyone have information on the invasion/emigration of North African Moors to Reggio Calabria? Several web sites suggest the origins of my ancestral family name -"Richichi" - may be Arabic - "Raqiq". Thanks.

there are two variants of the name i stated at example:
Rexhpi and Rexhepi which both pronounced sound very similar to Richichi/Rechichi.
