Svevia Nobility?

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Svevia Nobility?

Postby ebmom » 29 Nov 2004, 18:43

My aunt told me that her grandmother gave her an heirloom ring when she was a little girl that supposedly had been passed down in the 'female' generation from the Royal Family of Svevia. I looked up Svevia and it used to be a country that had parts of France & Italy and more back in the medieval times, but I cannot find any sort of family tree or anything to go by. Now I am starting to think this is a hoax but my cousin, who currently has the ring, is STILL to have the ring dated and appraised. What else can I do to confirm or discount this info?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Dear California person go to www.google.com and insert the family name of the owner of the ring and the word genealogy alongside and also try family name and Svevia kingdom..variations in the title will bring in other researches that have been or are being comnducted on the name, the ring, the kingdom and the history of the family. Dear New York person,
I did the google and all of that and came up empty on a family tree at all. We do not know who the original owner of the ring was. I will keep looking. Thanks.

I really don't know... I haven't seen the ring and my aunt gave it to my cousin 23 years ago. I've asked over and over and over again to at least have it appraised or dated but they never do it. It's a pity, really.

If you go to http://www.ancestry.com and enter Svevia and search you will find 10 family trees for this surname. There are 20 in the World family tree (subscription). One tree appears to be a noble family in Italy from long ago.

There is some wonderful help available here, but you need to provide information for Peter, Suanj and others to help you. Perhaps, you could visit your cousin and together take the ring to have it appraised. Offer to pay for the appraisal and make sure they know you only want a picture and to learn the history of the ring. Just a suggestion.

A round of appaluse for debbie! Now for me an applause will do. Constance Di Svevia 1291 and Johanna Di Svevia 1312 are listed in the www.familysearch.org under ancestry search. Just add them to your list while researching. Peter

Hey Debbie! Thank you so much! Actually I own many of the family tree disks with others' tree lines so I will look into that.

As per my cousin... well, I live in California, she lives in Virginia. I really cannot afford to travel long distance just to force her to get the ring appraised. She's not poor either, her and her husband are quite wealthy & snobby might I add. She never answers to my emails. I will call my aunt here in the next couple of days and bug her about it once again about this... who knows... maybe for once she will listen to her mother.

Thanks again!
