Here is the translation of what is a sad but wonderful letter - he must have been a lovely man...

Translation:
Dear nephew
I was very pleased to receive your letter and I thank you. I have no words to express my gratitude for the photograph you sent me, this way I will have my whole family wth me. You have even passed on my name to your little Nicola, I'm peased for that too.

I have sent you a few devotional objects (cards?), make them a part of our family. It is my keepsake, maybe my last one.

I have been ill for more than two months, my kidneys don't work and my heart is a little weak, I don't kow if I will escape this illness. No matter, I am resigned and will accept the will of God, if he wishes to keep me alive, I will write to you immediately if I am healed.

I also wish a good Easter festival to everyone for many years (to come), with health and prosperity.

I am now in the infirmary of our convent of Jerusalem.

I offer my dearest wishes to everyone, to your husband, your brither, to the sisters, and to all the family and a kiss to your dear children.

Best wishes and an embrace from
.
Yours affectionate uncle

Brother Luca Pacelli
