Can someone help me with name translations and pronunciation

Postby newtothis » 05 Apr 2009, 13:22

There has been some debate here as of late within our family and friends that I hope someone can clear up for us. First off, is "Donato" as a first name Dan or Don in english? Also is "Dante" Italian for Dan? Next question: what is the correct pronunciation for "Iaccheri"? I am embarassed that we have to ask as this seems to me to be Italian 101.

Thanks for your help

To me it could be both :D

I would ask the question the other way round: is Dan English for Dante?
and I would answer no... :)

Il mio cognome lo sbaglia... ma tanto ci sono abituato: lo sbagliano anche gli italiani

The Italian for Dan or Daniel would be Daniele. There really is not an English equivalent for Dante, and Donato could be shortened to either Don or Dan.
