Help with translation of two birth certificates

Postby ilona » 12 Jan 2010, 20:42

I have two birth certificates for my great grandparents and not sure of exact translation. Any help is appreciated.

<a href="http://s663.photobucket.com/albums/uu360/igfranck/?action=view&current=BirthOrlando.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i663.photobucket.com/albums/uu360/igfranck/BirthOrlando.jpg" border="0" alt="Birth Orlando"></a>

I hope you can read and access them.

Well...the copies are very light where it is handwritten, but I'll give you what I can read and others will try to fill in where needed.

Province of Palermo

Birth record #229
1852, on the 11th of July (not sure of the hour)
before the Mayor, Giorgio _____,
in the Commune of __________
District of Corleone, Province of Palermo,
appeared Maria ______, age 66, a midwife (levatrice), to present a baby born of Maria Merdaga (sp?), age 21, residing here, and Stefano _____, age 28, farmer, residing here.

I don't see a name for the baby.

On the Baptism side, it looks like the baby's name is Giovanna.

The date of the act is July 11, 1852 but the baby was born the day before at 2.00 PM. The town is Prizzi.
The mother's name is Maria Mordagà, 21 years old and the father is Stefano Orlando 28 years old, peasant. The baby's name looks Giovanni Orlando, a boy.
