I have Angelamaria Scialla, born 28 Nov 1845 of Angelamaria di Nardo 40 of deceased Francesco in S.M.
I cannot find the father's name and I don't know why. Is it there? :?

Thank you
Jim

Hi Jim,

The birth record is for a female baby who was named Maddalena.

Mother is Angelamaria di Nardo, and the presenter was Annamaria Vigliano, the midwife. Not seeing the father's name.... but I think it says that the mother lives with her spouse ..."domicilato con lui conjugi".. and referring to his age as "come sopra (as said above), and his domicile "come sopra"...etc.

That's all I can see... :-(
Maybe there was more to the record?

Jim
It's strange that the father's name was omitted from the document. The midwife did make the presentation, but on page 2 it does say that the infant's mother was living with him, and then it has the word for spouses which is conuigi. So she the mother was definitely married. The only reference to the father appears on the very last line of page 2 in the left column where it says that the witnesses were produced by him and then it looks like the name Russo (sp?). I know that is one of your surnames, so whatever that name is, be it Russo or something else, that is the father's last name.

to be more technical, it actually it says by this Russo (sp?), so that would be the reference to the father's surname.

So, where it says Angelamaria Scialla is incorrect? That is usually the location where I find familiar names when perusing films. Any thoughts about where this notation came from? Was it an error?
Nothing on this document seems to make very much sense to me. :?

Help, please!

Jim
This morning I see that the infant's last name appears on the baptism side of the record. I was really tired last night and hadn't noticed that. Sorry. Do you know for sure if Angelamaria di Nardo is the correct mother for this child? Now I am thinking that the second page of the document is not the correct second page for page one. Possibly it belongs to another record and was put in the wrong order on the microfilm to make you believe that it went with the first page of this record???? I've seen that happen on occasion.

Wow! :o
I thought I was losing my mind.
I'll research that possibility. It's possible I messed up when scanning. I may have scanned page 2 of the wrong document. I will try to find it today and re-scan.
Thank you so much for the insight. I feel much better. :)

Jim
Sometimes page two is below page one on the film; sometimes it is to the right of the first page, even up above it, to the right of a record(s) above the one you are looking at. You really have to be careful with that. I learned that lesson the hard way a very very long time ago. That's where reading the language quickly comes in handy. I hope you find it.

Guess what!
I found the correct page 2. :) It should make it easier to figure out this birth act.
Thank you for your patience.
