Looking for definition of occupation for G-G-G Grandfather

Post by dlc519 »

Hi,

In a search for my Great Great Grandmother birth record, I was able to find not one but two Filomena Allocca's born the same year. I am assuming one of them is the right record. In working on interpretation, the father of both Filomena Alloccas had a occupation listed as:

pittinatore

I wasn't sure if the second letter was an e or an i, but it's definatley looking like a p as the first letter.

Can you tell me what this profession is? I've not been successful in transltation.

Thank you,
Denise

is there any way you could upload a copy of one of the records using either imageshack or photobucket?

Either the occupation is obsolete which would account for it not being in a current Italian dictionary, or possibly you are transcribing the script incorrectly. In the current dictionary, I only see the following, but I can't say this is the profession. What town are these records from, as that may give a clue to the occupation?

pettinatura-hairstyling

the following is a website with Italian occupations and their English equivalents, in case you need it for future reference:

Wow! I can upload the PDA files this evening when I'm home from work, but pettinatore=wool comber makes sense.

Thanks for your help!
