Birth Record and notations

Postby lilbees » 26 Aug 2010, 13:51

Can someone translate this for me inclding the notations. I am a bit confused. Looks like Giovanni Batteglia's mother was unwed. What is more confusing is the surname is spelled differently in several places on this document as well on the later marriage record. Not positive what to use.

What is known,
Birth record: Giovanni Batteglia, 7 Aug 1860, Castellammare di Stabia
Mother: Elizabetta Venerio (sp. ?)
Possible Father: Ciriano Batteglia

Rotated so side note can be read

Thank you for any help.

Just looking over the record quickly, Giovanni's mother Elisabetta (have to figure out what her surname was) was the wife of Giuliano Battaglia, the informant on the record. It says sua moglie after her maiden name.

Okay, found subsequent births for Elisabetta Venario. All had the correction of husband to Ciriaco Battillo not Guiliano or Gaetano. The surname was also changed.

The marriage of Giovanni the surname is spelled Battillo. There was a side note that there was a verification but I am not sure what. See link below.

The problem with the record is that a lot of the handwritten words are written with no spaces between them. So the words "sua moglie" for his wife are written as suamoglie. Also the words da "lui dichiarante" are written as one word as "luidichiarante."

Both Giuliano and Elisabetta were 24. I am still trying to decipher his occupation. It also says that she was living with the husband. Those words also have no spaces between them. domiciliata "colmarito" which should be "col marito"-living with the husband

That side note is just a verification that the magistrate had seen the record and it has the date that he saw it (Sept 15, 1887).

The verification from the pretore or magistrate had to do with the family council which gave its consent for the bride to marry Giovanni since she was underage and both of her parents were deceased.

that information is handwritten in the marriage document below where it talks about the certificate of the following publications and the date for that (the very bottom of the record-the handwritten portion).
