Stumped by handwriting

Postby RussoTiesi » 29 Sep 2010, 03:37

My GGF Leonardo RussoTiesi (1882-1917) and his brother Antonino (1887-???) came from Chiusa Sclafani, Sicily, to the U.S. on separate ships within months of each other in 1908. On both ship manifests, the last name of their mother is maddeningly difficult (for me) to read. (Her first name clearly seems to be Giuseppa.)

On Leonardo's death certificate, his wife, Anna Terranella, gave her mother-in-law's name as what appears to be Josephine Panzanino (or Panganino). But, this doesn't look like the name on the manifests, and Anna wasn't from the same town as her husband (they met in the U.S.) and didn't know his birthdate, so her info isn't exactly authoritative.

I'd appreciate it greatly if you could take a look at the two images and share your thoughts with me.

Thank you for your help.

The name fairly leaped out at me when you wrote "Pancamo."

Again, thank you!
