Need Help with Death Record

Postby 1vinnie » 29 Oct 2010, 03:11

Could someone please give me an idea of what all this says?

I know it is a death record for Vincenzo Pavone - Son of Nunzio but the rest is unreadable to me.

The record is very hard to read...

The date is almost obscured, but my guess is 6 August 1839 (?)

Vincenzo Pavone was single and 25 years old, son of Nunzio and of Giuseppa LaBasa (sp?)
It looks like he died in a hospital.

Others here will take a look and see what else is readable.

I think you got it mainly right. I really wanted to know if he was married. The mothers last name is La Rosa.

Thanks a lot.

If anyone eleemosynary has some ideas on the lower half I would be appreciative

at the bottom of the record it states that, in order to execute the law, he was transported to the stated hospital which was unknown to them (the officials) and that he died in the stated hospital on the day, month, and year above. The act was formulated in the presence of Salvatore Macaluso, age 28, profession ?, living ?, and Giuseppe Macaluso, age 52, of profession ?, living there. After this, there was a reading of the act and it also states that the witnesses did not know how to write. Thus the document is only signed by the official.

I don't know about the year. It looks like much too long a word to be ending in just nove for 9.

Thankyou very much!! Does anyone know if in Palermo witnesses were related to the deceased or random people?

Informants on a death record were sometimes related to the deceased. Witnesses on a death record were normally just town witnesses who witnessed the formulation of the act, as did these witnesses, and not the death itself.

I read it slightly different...

"Per esecuzione della legge ci siamo trasferiti in detto spedale ove abbiamo riconosciuto l'effettiva morte di Vincenzo Pavone avvenuta nel giorno mese anno di sopra..."

"In order to execute the law we went to the said hospital where we have acknowledged the actual death of Vincenzo Pavone occurded in the said hospital on the day, month, and year above..."

Livio is correct. I misread the word riconosciuto and it does say l'effettiva morte.

Thanks, Livio, for always looking over my shoulder.
